Denise Kaufmann is partner and Director, Client Development, North America, at Ketchum, one of the world’s most awarded public relations agencies. A strategic business partner for the agency’s clients, she provides the highest level of client counsel, driving growth and expanding their engagements geographically. She is also a member of Ketchum’s 19-member Global Leadership Council.
Her experience and reputation as a valued public relations advisor, creative strategist and leader comes from an impressive career spanning many industries and regions, including Europe and Asia as well as her native North America.
Along with international programming expertise, Denise provides strategic counsel in specialty communications areas including employee communications, crisis and issues, consumer health education, CSR, environmental awareness and brand building programs for leading companies and organizations such as Philips Lighting, FedEx, The Dow Chemical Company, IBM, Mitsubishi Electronics, The American Medical Association, Movember Foundation, the Quaker Oats Company and the Emerson Electric Company.
A noted figure in public relations, Denise is a regular on the speaking circuit and a contributor to trade publications. She is also a highly experience jury participant, having judged a number of awards including Dubai Lynx, PRCA, The Drum, PRWeek, CIPR and PRMoment awards.
Prior to her position as Director, Client Development, North America, Denise led Ketchum’s London office as CEO. Under her leadership she introduced the operation’s integrated approach, which has served as a model for the larger Ketchum network. Her innovative and forward thinking approach led the agency to being named the Public Relations Consultancy Association’s International Consultancy of the Year and CorpComms Magazine’s Agency of the Decade.
In addition she served as a member of the board of directors for the PRCA (Public Relations and Communications Authority). She also helped to establish Omniwomen in the UK, Omnicom’s flagship program for gender parity – an issue Denise is extremely passionate about.
Denise has held a number of positions at Ketchum, including Managing Director, Client Service and Global Account Director for Philips Lighting and FedEx, managing corporate reputation management programs in multiple countries. Before this she was based in Hong Kong where she oversaw three of the agency’s largest global accounts in Asia Pacific: FedEx, Dow Chemical and IBM and served as the firm’s Director of Client Services for Greater China from 2001 until 2004.
Joining Ketchum in 1997, Denise was a Vice President in Ketchum Chicago’s Brand Marketing group. While there, she managed the global integrated marketing and PR program for Lions Clubs International. As Global Account Director, she managed activities in more than 18 countries and coordinated outreach efforts for the organization’s $300 million foundation, working with corporations, NGOs and other international health agencies around the globe.
Denise holds a Bachelor of Science in Journalism from Kent State University and will soon relocate to Chicago, where her Ketchum career began more than 20 years ago.
