Ketchum Makes Two Senior Healthcare Appointments

Ketchum Promotes Partner Amy McCarthy to Director of Healthcare Client Development, North America; Tom Jones Rejoins Ketchum as Director, New York Healthcare Practice

NEW YORK, Oct. 27, 2016 – Ketchum, one of the world’s leading communications consultancies, today announced two new senior healthcare appointments, reflecting the firm’s commitment to expanding the breadth and depth of this growing core practice area. Amy McCarthy, partner and director of the New York Healthcare Practice, has been elevated to the role of director of client development for the North America Healthcare Practice, while Tom Jones has returned to Ketchum to take on the role of director, New York Healthcare Practice.

In her new role, McCarthy will work closely with healthcare client directors and North America client development director Michael O’Brien to strengthen client relationships and ensure client experience remains the practice’s top priority. At the same time, she will continue to lead some of the agency’s largest global client engagements. She will continue to report to Mike Doyle, partner and director, New York.

“Amy has led the New York Healthcare Practice with her hallmark professional grace and unequaled intellect for more than a decade. The practice is growing at a tremendous pace and is delivering some of the most compelling work in the agency. She is a seasoned client counselor and I know our current and future clients will benefit greatly from having Amy in this role,” said Doyle.

As McCarthy assumes her new position, Ketchum hired Tom Jones to serve as SVP and director of the New York Healthcare Practice. Jones will be responsible for driving the practice’s growth and also joins the New York office’s senior leadership team, reporting to Doyle.

Doyle said of Jones, “With Amy’s new role, we set our sights on bringing in a strong healthcare leader to carry the mantle of the New York practice. We found that in Tom, who brings to Ketchum a depth of experience in multiple therapeutic categories as well as in leading successful client engagements and teams. We are thrilled to welcome Tom back to the firm.”

Jones joined Ketchum in 1995, rising through the ranks to VP and group manager in the New York Healthcare Practice. He departed in 2002 for a leadership role at Novartis and most recently served as SVP and head of Makovsky’s healthcare practice. Jones is a graduate of Rowan University and earned a master’s degree from New York University.

McCarthy joined Ketchum in 2003 as SVP and group manager, was named director of the New York Healthcare Practice in 2006, and became a Ketchum partner in 2013. She started her career at Burson-Marsteller in 1986 and served as team leader at Chandler Chicco Agency from 1999 to 2003. McCarthy is a graduate of Brown University.
